Sunday School

Big Group Time: 1st – 5th grade

Teachers: Emily Forslev (1st – 4th Grade) and Children’s Ministry Intern (5th Grade)

Big group is a great time for all the elementary age kids, 1st – 4th grade, to worship and learn together.  There is worship time to open, then a skit or short video summarizing the lesson, a short message, and games/activities to bring the lesson to life.

Big group time for the 5th graders consists of games to begin, a short video and lesson tackling that weeks issue.  This is a great time for the 5th graders to work together and discuss the issues they are facing each day.

Big group time lasts for 20 – 25 minutes.

Small Group Time:

Teachers: Monthly Volunteer Parents

Small groups provide an opportunity for kids to dig deeper into what they learned during the Big Group Time.  Small groups have age-appropriate games and activities to help the kids apply what they have learned.  Small groups also provide an opportunity to discuss and learn more about Christianity, the Bible and their own faith.  Small group leaders are parent volunteers that lead for a month at a time.  The small group time lasts for 15 – 20 minutes.

Curriculum

Our elementary Sunday School (1st – 4th) uses the Living Inside Out curriculum put out by Group. This is a fun and engaging curriculum which uses the Big Group – Small Group program model.  It breaks the lessons into small sections of lesson, videos, games and activities to keep the kids interested and learning!

Our 5th Grade Sunday School class uses the Grapple curriculum put out by Group. This engaging curriculum uses and the Big Group – Small Group model.  In this class the 5th graders are able to tackle the tough questions of faith, relationships, sin etc. that are relevant in their lives.  They are able to really dig into the real-life issues they face everyday at school and home.

Health and Safety

The health, safety and security of each child are of the utmost importance to us.  Our dedicated staff and volunteers are committed to maintaining a safe, age-appropriate environment for each child.  All Sunday School classes at TVPC adhere to rigorous guidelines laid out in the church’s Child and Youth Safety Policy.  We ask parents to help in the following ways:

  1. Fill out a brief registration form for each child.  (located on the table at the top of the stairs)
  2. Always sign children out of Sunday School on the attendance sheets located on the table at the top of the stairs.  Teachers can only release children to their parents or junior high (+) sibling.
  3. Keep children home if they show symptoms of contagious illness (fever, cough, runny nose, etc.)
  4. Let teachers know about all food allergies and other relevant medical conditions.  We especially need to know about food allergies because snacks are sometimes used in the lesson.
